my heart is heavy as i write this.
after hearing the news of the awfulness that happened in connecticut yesterday morning, i resolved to not posting on my blog, like i had originally intended. instead, i found comfort in reading facebook posts written by some wonderful people, blog posts with encouraging words and holding my little boy just a tad bit longer while giving & receiving hugs.
with all of the love outpouring from my newsfeed on facebook, there was also much hate. hate towards the man that did this. and as much as my heart is hurting for those littles that lost their lives today, and those that lost their lives trying to protect them, my heart is also hurting for that man.
i don't find solace in knowing that some people think more people in this world should be carrying concealed weapons or reading status updates from people saying that those who have homicidal thoughts should instead turn the gun on themselves, and they'll provide the bullets.* i find this disheartening.
with wounds so fresh, shouldn't we be offering up love? love to the families that are grieving, love to those afflicted with mental illness or have been hurt in some way that they feel this is their way out, love to those who risked their lives being protectors.
"Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: 'It is mine to avenge; I will repay,' says the Lord." -Romans 12:19
"Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do and he will bless you for it." -1 Peter 3:9
"And don't sin by letting anger gain control over you. Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a mighty foothold to the Devil. Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior." -Ephesians 4:26-27, 31
*i am in no way condoning homicidal thoughts.
i also am in no way saying you are not entitled to your own beliefs.
these are just my own personal opinions.
